Lecture Title:  Narrative Medicine Curriculum

Abstract:

The concept of narrative medicine was put forward by Professor Rita Charon of Columbia University Medical School in 2001. It emphasizes that by listening carefully to patients' stories, recognizing, absorbing, interpreting and being moved by them, it provides a powerful tool for the implementation of medical humanistic education and the construction of high-quality humanistic hospitals. Based on the theory of narrative medicine, the Medical Humanities Center of Shenzhen University Health Science Center explores a narrative medicine practice teaching system suitable for China's medical development by constructing a two-level advanced social practice of the whole life cycle of "birth, old age, illness and death". Among them, the narrative Medicine Practice course "Warm Medicine" has been approved as a first-class undergraduate social practice course in Guangdong Province in 2021. By sharing the development of narrative medicine course in Shenzhen University Health Department, this lecture will deeply explain and discuss the course design, teaching implementation, teaching evaluation and other aspects of narrative medicine in medical education undergraduate stage.
