Lecture Title:  The Basic Research Methods of Discursive Interaction Studies and Case Example

Abstract:

In accordance with the philosophy of Postmodernism and with the development of Critical Discourse Analysis to Critical Discourse Studies, the research focus transfers from “discourse” to the “discursive interaction” in the network of social practices. Based on the foundation of current literature reviews and case analyses, the researcher proposes a new approach that contains both a “three-dimension & two-direction” analytic model and a “two-level & five step” analytic framework. This approach indicates that the research of discursive interaction is composed by two directions from each of the vertical, horizontal and diachronic dimensions in the macro level, and is conducted by five steps from both language use and social factors in the micro level. The researcher will use a case example of interactive discourse between Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine to illustrate the research methods of discursive interaction research.
