The 95th Peking University Medical Humanities Forum:Reported by Xu Shenjian, A Lawyer’s Professional Ethics and Legal Education

   On the evening of March 11th, 2022, the 95th Peking University Medical Humanities Forum was held in Room 716, Yifu Teaching Building, Peking University Health Science Center. Xu Shenjian, Professor of China University of Political Science and Law, delivered a lecture entitled “A Lawyer’s Professional Ethics and Legal Education”. The lecture was chaired by Professor Wang Yue, Vice President of School of Health Humanities, Peking University. Yu Xinliang, Deputy Secretary of CPC in School of Health Humanities Committee, as well as other teachers and students in PKU attended the lecture.

    

   Professor Xu Shenjian discussed with the audience on the topic of “what is a good doctor”, and pointed out that people’s expectations of a good doctor have something in common with those of a good lawyer. After that, Professor Xu emphasized that the sensitivity of legal professional ethics was relatively low compared with medical ethics. However, when Xi Jinping, General Secretary, the CPC Central Committee had pointed out that “nurturing morality and fostering talent, cultivating both morality and law, and training people who are legal talents with both ability and integrity”. The legal professional ethics has been attached great importance. Professor Xu also illustrated the importance of legal professional ethics from the perspectives of society, nation and individual, pointing out that legal education at the present stage is a worldwide problem.

    

   Finally, the students asked questions about the science of law, Juris Master and so forth. Professor Xu answered them patiently. The audience had gained a lot in this lecture and expressed their gratitude to Professor Xu Shenjian for his sharing.
