Expert Workshop on Independently Establishing the Health Humanities Discipline by PKU Health Humanities School

 

On the afternoon of September 28 and the morning of September 29, 2020, the School of Health Humanities of Peking University respectively organized an external expert panel and an internal expert panel workshop about the independent establishment of an inter-discipline between humanities and health in the conference room 716, Yifu Building. The meeting was chaired by Professor Cheng Zhou, dean of the School of Health Humanities.

       The external expert panel includes academician Jinghe Lang of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Prof. Jianhong Luo of Zhejiang University, Prof. Lei Zhang of Fudan University, Prof. Zhong He of Peking Union Medical College, and Prof. Fengxiang Lu of Capital Medical University. Professor Siyan Zhan and Professor Min Ye of Peking University also participated in the workshop as member of the State Council Study Subject Discussion Panel. Professor Liping Duan, deputy director of Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Ming Xu, executive deputy director of Graduate School of Peking University Health Science Center attended the meeting on the afternoon of September 28.

       The internal experts panel includes Prof. Jianliu Wang of Peking University People's Hospital, Prof. Tiejun Li of Peking University Hospital of Stomatology, Prof. Jianfeng Pan of Peking University Law School and other professors from Peking University including Prof. Haifeng Yang from the School of Marxism, Prof. Xiaofei Xie from the School of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, Prof. Yihong Gao from the Institute of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Prof. Bingzhong Gao from the Department of Sociology, and Prof. Xiaoying Zheng from the Institute of Population Research.

       Professor Yue Wang, the deputy dean of the School of Health Humanities, gave a special report on the increase of a doctoral degree authorization point in health humanities, and reported on the urgency, feasibility and a specific construction plan of the discipline from its construction background, disciplinary foundation, construction goals and ideas quality assurance measures and other aspects.

       These experts carefully listened to the report on the demonstration plan of the degree authorization point, and reviewed the application materials of health humanities discipline. In the link of demonstration, the experts attending the meeting raised pertinent questions, made a comprehensive survey and in-depth analysis about the construction of a doctoral degree authorization point in the health humanities field, and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions for the construction and development of health humanities. Through the discussion, the expert panels agreed that Peking University had the ability to independently set up the health humanities discipline, and agreed that Peking University should independently set up a doctoral degree authorization point in health humanities field.

       Professor Cheng Zhou made a summary for the meeting. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the experts for their strong support to the discipline construction in the School of Health Humanities. At the same time, he asked the college to further modify and improve the demonstration plan based on experts’ opinions, so as to lay a solid foundation for talents cultivation of the doctoral degree authorization point in health humanities discipline.
