Recruitment Information for Faculty Positions at School of Health Humanities, Peking University in 2021

Peking University School of Health Humanities (SHH), which was previously called Peking University Institute for Medical Humanities /School of Foundational Education, is a teaching and research entity in the field of medical and health humanities and social sciences. It carries both western and eastern traditions in the humanities and is deeply influenced by the well-grounded cultural and intellectual heritage from Peking University. The School commits itself to multi-disciplinary dialogues and inter-disciplinary integration between medical sciences, the humanities and social sciences. By embracing a number of  subjects including history, philosophy, ethics law, psychology, sociology, literature and art, it hopes to explore the value and meaning of health, illness and medicine and bridge over the barriers between clinical medicine, public health, foundational medicine and humanities so as to better interpret and cope with the contemporary challenges modern medical technology, medical services and health care face. The School hopes to not only facilitate cross-disciplinary education and research, but also provide theoretical and empirical support for the reform and development in medical education and health care in China.

 

I. Introduction on Faculty Series Management System

Peking University adopts Series-based Employment System which includes Faculty Series, Research Series, and Teaching Series. Faculty series, which embraces both teaching and research commitments, is at the core of the employment system.  With the implementation of Tenure-Track System, faculty series is composed of pre-tenured and tenure positions, including pre-tenured assistant professor, pre-tenured associate professor, tenure associate professor and tenure professor. Besides, the university has established Boya Talent System to further support outstanding academic talents through the appointment of Boya Chair Professors, Boya Distinguished Professors and Boya Young Fellow.

1.Have established specialization in a particular research area with domestic top-level academic achievements.

2.Have outstanding and representative research publications of international stature.

3.Be experienced in either leading research projects or acquiring academic awards at national levels.

4. Preference will be given to applicants currently holding professorial positions at prestigious international universities or having obtained academic competence and achievements of the same level.

5. Preferably under 50 years of age.

Tenure Associate Professor

Ph.D

1.Have the vision and leadership in initiating and developing a leading research direction.

2. Have authoritative and outstanding research publications.

3. Have experiences of leading research projects of significance and prestige.

4. Preference will be given to applicant currently holding associate professorial positions or professorial positions in prestigious international universities or having obtained academic competence and achievements of the same level.

4. Preference will be given to people currently holding assistant professorial positions or associate professorial positions at prestigious international universities or having obtained academic competence and achievements of the same level.

Assistant Professor

Ph.D

1. Have solid research direction, and potentials in research.

2. Have high quality publications.

3. Have experiences of participating in significant research projects.

4. Preference will be given to applicants currently holding  assistant professorial positions or postdoctoral positions at  prestigious  universities or having obtained academic competence and achievements of the same level.

5. Preferably under 35 years of age.

Further requirements that apply to all positions:

6. Morally competent; has excellent team work spirit and professionalism.

7. Be able to teach courses in relation to the applied discipline and research field.

8. No bad record.

9. Be Healthy and competent for the post.

10. Preference will be given to people with medical background.

 

III. Materials applicants should submit

i.     Curriculum Vitae: it should present applicant’s continuous experiences of education and employment starting from college, achievements in teaching and research, including research projects, research publications (with indexed and cited situation);

ii.    Personal Application: the applicant should clearly indicate the applied position and expected date of taking up the appointment, etc.;

iii.   Detailed Personal Statement: it should include employment certificates, statement on teaching, and statement on research;

iv.   Representative Publications: the applicant should submit at most 10 publications (PDF attachments) and outline the research projects in a list;

v.    Academic Research Plan for the next 3-5 years;

vi.   Reference Letter: three or more reference letters from independent experts are needed; and reference letters from mentors or co-mentors are welcomed as supplementary materials (all should include signatures and contact information of referees.);

vii.  Other Materials (Award Certificates, etc.).
